This is a GREAT read!! If you are from or have ever lived in Eastern North Carolina (we are a different breed than the rest of NC) You will find the humor, the joy, the laughter and the tears, the Lady that wrote this happens to be a Facebook Friend and went to school with my husbnad. This is such a light hearted book (there are some "sad" moments but it's pretty much true") that you will find yourself at the end before you realize it and looking for MORE.I am looking forward to the new books she will have with Amazon in October of this year I will definately purchase or get them when and if they are free. GREAT read.
You will not be sorry if you get this book.

Observations of a Transplanted Southern Belle Laurie Byrne Smith 9781502818102 Books Reviews
That's just what I was up to when listening. It states it is contrasting south Florida to western North Carolina, but relates more strongly as urban to mild rural mountains. Each vignette is less than 5 minutes, yet prods thoughts lasting much longer. I am of an age with the author, but have never resided in any part of the south, yet there is so much that we share in experiences. I loved it!
Ms Howlett performs this series of monologues so well that it seems as if there is a friend sitting at your kitchen table sipping coffee and chatting while you do simple chores. Thanks for that!

OBSERVATIONS of a TRANSPLANTED SOUTHERN BELLE was a fun listen and I would love to hear more. This book was based on a series of articles written and I found myself thinking 'I remember that' and nodding in agreement throughout most of this audiobook.
I enjoyed every single musing. The one about living on a bridge was cute and I loved the one about the little glass beads and the old beaded purse. The stop light story was cute and I especially liked the one about the sea glass and shells. I also liked the section about eating out while traveling.
This audiobook was a little gem and I would love to hear more from the author LAURIE BYRNE SMITH. I think much of her writing would resonate well with many people.
LEE ANN HOWLETT did a terrific job narrating this audiobook. I enjoy listening to her somewhat southern drawl. I've listened to her before and have liked everything by her. She has a way of embodying the story and making it feel as if it's hers. This was a delightful listen.
Audiobook received in exchange for an honest review.
Laurie Byrne Smith is an excellent author. I could not put the book down.
This is so right on the mark. I grew up with Laurie just one house away. Knew her parents and grandparents. They were nice people. Laurie seems to have gotten her mothers smarts! This book is so cute and I really enjoyed reading it this morning! I still live in New Bern and that tree she is talking about is still there just like my mom, see that tree a lot, New B ern has grown a lot since we were kids. But still a friendly place .
SO very, very, funny, but at the same time very touching. For anyone that grew up back in the 50s and 60s this really is a must read. Stories of so many things that each of us went through growing up but have forgotten. It will make you smile and sometimes shed a tear or two. If you don't read this one you really will be missing something. Keep up the good work Laurie, can't wait to see what you come up with next.
You don't have to be from the south to enjoy this book. The writer's style made me feel as if I was sitting at the kitchen table having coffee and conversation with my best friend. I was immediately drawn into stories of her childhood and those of everyday life as an adult - sometimes sweet, sometimes humorous. The book is a quick read that left me a bit sad only because it was over. Hope the next one comes out soon!
